Lampworking for Charity

I have a few special listings in my bracelet bead shop for Custom Name Beads. Writing with glass is a skill I have recently taught myself as I wanted to make and donate name beads to Beads of Courage - Be Child Cancer Aware and so it feels right to me that whenever I make a name bead for sale that the BoC project gets a little benefit from that too. I really appreciate the chance to help out a little bit just by doing the thing that I love to do anyway.

I am not the only bead maker I know that likes to lampwork for charity so the rest of today's post is going to be about some of those special beads and the brilliant people that make them and the charities that are dear to their hearts.
Heather made this pair of lentil beads with an olive green base and scrollwork in a minty green

First up are these delightful minty lentils by Heather Kelly who has a special corner in her Etsy shop for OCD-UK (Reg. charity #1103210). Heather writes OCD-UK is the charity dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of almost one million children and adults in the UK whose lives are affected by Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. OCD can be so debilitating that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has ranked OCD in the top ten most disabling illnesses of any kind, in terms of lost earnings and diminished quality of life.

Pink Purple Dinosaur Lampwork Glass Bead - Dinos for Diabetes

The next fab lampwork bead I would like to show you is this adorable pink dino made by Lauren May Mazursky. Lauren has a Dinosaurs for Diabetes section in her Etsy store and says - he's small but mighty, like a Type 1 kiddo I know. Proceeds from the sales of the mini dino beads will go to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) for a cure.
This is a little black button with a frog's face on it, for Team Jaxon F.R.O.G, on macrame'd cotton. The silver coloured affirmation ring says 'Kindness' which is what this is all about

My last shout out for today is for Kat Newman who has designed kindness bracelets to fund raise for Team Jaxon.
You can also find out more about team Jaxon - FROG here on Facebook.

These are just a very few fabulous examples of people turning their creativity and talent into a source of support for causes close to our hearts and trying to make a small difference in our own way.

If you craft to fund raise for a charitable cause close to your heart please feel free to tell me all about it and post a link in the comments section below.

Have a great day, Jolene x

Buzzword bead comp prizes gallery

I have just finished and photographed the custom made prizes for the 8 lucky winners selected from last weeks Buzzword bead comp on my blog. I thought it would be wonderful to show all of them together in this little gallery type post. This first set is for Linda, a trio that reads Bead-a-holic. This deep plummy striated purple glass is a absolute favourite of mine and I hope that Linda likes it too.

The next set I have to show in the prize gallery is a fabulous phrase suggested by Vic. It reads "You are never too old to storm a bouncy castle". Vic wanted a her prize beads made in blues and greens and so I raided my special stash Effetre opalino colours which look delicious!

The third set reads "Don't follow the crowd, lead it", a truly wonderful suggestion put forward by Lucy. It's a wonderful piece of uplifting advice. Lucy told me that she loves bright colour so I have selected this vibrant orange and lime colours for her.

This teeny tiny 15mm round bead reads "It's only impossible if you think about it" which is a bit of a quote from the film The Pirates Band Of Misfits. I couldn't resist the temptation to fit it all on the one bead just to see if it could be done. This one is winging it's way off to Sam in the post.

This next uplifting phrase "Dare to dream" seemed just right to become a Buzzword focal.  This wonderful phrase was put forward as a suggestion by Tina who wanted a purple bead to go with her hair.

Next a trio mini set that I have made especially for Tish and reads "Diabetic Insulin Dependant" in gloriously red CiM Maraschino glass.

Kathleen wanted purple too for her winning slogan "what comes round goes round". This one was handpicked as a winner because I so wanted to write that on a bead.

You only get a teaser of a glimpse of this last set because my blog is U rated and these beads are...well they are just not! KJ got her name picked out of that hat for a string of her favourite swear words and that lady sure does know how to curse. For those of you who know KJ, it just had to be rainbows innit :-D I just love these beads, they were born to be cheeky and bad!

My What's the buzz.... customise your own buzzword bead set option is now live in Etsy. Thank you once again to everyone who left and entry in my competition, it has been a lot of fun. I think I'll have another buzzword blog comp around Christmas time/

Buzzword bead comp and the winners are

It's that time - time to announce the winners of my Buzzword Beads Competition.  I have put every phrase along with the name of the person who put the suggestion forward on it's own slip of paper and have decided to pick out 4 random entries to have their words made up as Buzzword beads.
So here goes.......
  • winner no 1 -  "Dare to dream" from Tina
  • winner no 2 - " Don't follow the crowd, lead it" from Lucy (Miss Pixie)
  • winner no 3 - Favourite swear words from KJ (don't blame me guv, my OH picked the winners from the hat (casserole dish)) innit.
  • winner no 4 -  Bead-a-holic form Linda (Spexy)
Congratulations everyone, please get in touch with me at Jolene at craftpimp dot co dot uk and let me know where to send your beads when they are made.

In addition to these 4 I have also hand picked some extra winners too, I am also going to be making a few specific beads from ideas that have been shared here on my blog because something about each of them is utterly appealing to me in some way. I wish I could have made them all because there were so many great suggestions.

First I'm going to make Vic a set that says "You are never to old to storm a bouncy castle" because that phrase just makes me smile and then smile more. Next, one I've already made (because the temptation to do so was just toooooo irresistible) is a focal for Sam that says "It's only impossible if you think about it" (up there in red and black /\). Third up is a set for Tish that says diabetic insulin dependent in red on white because it'll look great and be useful too and last of my handpicked winners will be Nuttybeader from FHF with "what goes round comes round", such a cool phrase to pop on a bead!

My What's the buzz.... customise your own buzzword bead set option is now live in Etsy. Thank you very much to everyone who cane by and left a comment, my blog has never been so busy before!
