This week I have been playing around with overlay glass - just one shade, Reichenbach dense gold ruby - and making petal canes with different coloured opaque cores. 

I have teamed up the vibrant canes to paint flowers over some spectacular opal glass colours form Creation is Messy.

Little monster beads chess set...

I adore making these very special beads - cute and quirky little monster beads with googly eyes.

Cherry blossom lentil beads...

I made these pretty beads at the start of October but am only just getting around to blogging about them now. 

They are inspired by Japanese cherry blossoms - Sakura. I have used the stepped flower texture plate on the reverse side of these small pale transparent beads to give them a little extra sparkle in the light.

Large stepped heart beads with enamel and silver foil...

To make these shiny glass heart beads I've used pale transparent glass dusted with teal and purple enamel and lashings of silver foil....

The texture was created with the stepped heart texture plate available in my online store.

I love working with these colours, warm golden hues of amber and honey. These also have a touch of copper mica and a little bit of gold leaf.

A collection of new work all made with the concentric heart texture plate and a dusting of enamel for a subtle colour kick.

I've been playing around with adding texture to all sorts of different pressed shapes to see what looks good.

Lentil bead sets with stepped heart texture....

Pretty little heart bead sets....

These little beads sets are variations on a theme, often my brain wants to work this way, to compare and contrast similar ideas. They are all 19mm lentil beads, made with the same pale lilac glass and given heart texture with my stepped heart texture tool  but the surface decoration is all different - first enamels, then gold leaf and finally Double Helix Arke reduction silver glass. 

They are all so pretty and the pale lilac glass looks so different in each of these sets! Below is a process video on how I have achieved these effects.

Faux Dichro chunky lentil beads with flower texture

Faux Dichro lentil beads....

I recently bought some thicker silver leaf, 51g per thousand leave rather than the 33g that I have always used.

Because thicker silver leaf stands up to the heat much better under encasement I thought I would have a go as some faux dichroic effects and made some chunky textured lentil beads, These are around 3cm across and 1.5cm thick. 

These have been given flower texture on both faces with the stepped flower texture plate.

Lampwork beads dusted with enamel....

Playing with enamels over heart texture...

I am cleaning the studio, it's a slow process as I keep discoering long forgotten glass treasures including a sample pack of Thompson enamels and my 3M respirator face mask. So  this morning I dusted my stepped heart texture plate with enamels to see what kind of effects I could achieve. These first results are promising so there will more of this sort of thing happening in the studio tomorrow!
